Do you provide access to the Los Angeles Times, New York Times and other news sources?

Answer

The Occidental College Library is happy to announce that we offer campus-wide access to the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, The Atlantic, The Economist, The Washington Post, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. Students, faculty, and staff can enjoy these newspapers anywhere and anytime from their device of choice.

Los Angeles Times: Go to instructions to create your free latimes.com account.  If you activated your account between July 2023 and June 2024, you will need to reactivate your account using those same instructions.

New York Times: Send an email to library@oxy.edu requesting access. Once your account has been activated, you will receive a welcome email from the newspaper. Please allow us 1 - 3 business days to process your request.

The Chronicle of Higher Education: Access via our library catalog or go to their website and sign up for a free account using your Oxy email address.  Note: this is a journal, not a newspaper, but due to the timely content, it is included here.

The Economist: Please read these login instructions to get your free Oxy access.

The Atlantic:  Please follow these instructions to gain access for free.

Washington Post: Full free access on campus does not require you to sign in. Just go to the Washington Post webpage and ignore all the requests to subscribe. However, if you would like to access the newspaper off-campus, you will need an account. Instructions on how to set up an account can be found here

We also have a large number of subscriptions to news sources available to staff, students and faculty. A good place to start is the library databases.  When you get there, scroll down to Newspaper Source.  Then enter the title of the newspaper you want in the search box.  There are local, national, and international newspapers there.

Please contact us at library@oxy.edu if you have any questions.
