Can I check out books or create an account with public libraries in Eagle Rock/Highland Park or other areas of Los Angeles?

Answer

Yes!  But, you do need to have an address in California.

LA County Library will allow you to create an account for a digital library card.  This gives you access to ebooks, audiobooks, movie/TV streaming, and music downloads.  You can also check out three physical books at a time.  Just use your Oxy campus address or off campus address (you need to be an LA County resident) when filling out the form.

LA Public Library, which includes the branches in Eagle Rock and Highland Park, will issue a free library card to California residents and must be done in person.  There is also an e-card option.  Please visit LAPL: Applying for a card for more details.

California State Library is also an option and all you need is an email address and an internet connection!  You can choose from 300,000 ebooks and audiobooks from their collection.  Get started using these instructions.

For more detailed information and for other local public libraries, review our Using Public Libraries guide.
